Winter Break to Christmas Break…then back again

Filed under: — Ben Rast @ 8:44 pm

In a bold move marked with constitutional awareness and a disregard for the political correctness favored by an extremist minority, the Kitsap County (Washington) School Board voted in May to change the name of “Winter Break” back to the original “Christmas Break.” In a recent display of spinelessness, the school board caved to pressure from the extremist minority and reversed itself – changing the name back to “Winter Break.”

Christmas has long been a federal holiday in the United States, as codified in Title V of the United States Code (5 U.S.C. 6103). Christmas is also a state paid holiday in Washington State. Culturally, Christmas has been long recognized as a time for vacations and family togetherness, in addition to religious observances. It is part of the historical and cultural fabric of the United States, even when separated from its religious significance. To not recognize this is the most extreme form of political correctness. This move is simply another example of the extremist anti-Christian left’s successful campaign against any public acknowledgment of all things Christian.

In the interest of fairness, let’s apply political correctness to other holidays:

Labor Day – the first holiday for many in the school year, this can remain as-is. Many labor unions have had (or still have) socialist ties and/or objectives.
Columbus Day – Nope, this has to go. Christopher Columbus was a bad man who oppressed the native Americans.
Halloween – This is okay to celebrate so long as we keep the focus on the pagan aspect. Paganism is a minority religious tradition that should be taught and cherished in schools.
Thanksgiving – NOPE! Gotta go. This holiday is politically incorrect on two levels. First, it forces vulnerable students to feel they must give thanks to a higher power. This defies educational humanism. Secondly, this hearkens to the white pilgrims who exploited the Native Americans who welcomed them.
    Christmas – discussed above.
New Years Day – This is okay. Drunken debauchery is a matter of personal choice.
Martin Luther King Day – Suprisingly, we’re going to have to nix this holiday. This celebrates the birthday of REVEREND Martin Luther King. We cannot celebrate the life of any member of the clergy.
Presidents’ Day – This jointly celebrates the birthdays of President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. President Washington had slaves. This holiday must go, or be dedicated solely to President Lincoln.
St. Patrick’s Day – This isn’t a day off, but is often celebrated in the classroom. Have our teachers forgotten that “St.” is an abbreviation for “Saint”? Obviously a violation of the separation of church and state, which we all know is in the constitution. Ignore this holiday, or call it “Green Beer Day.”
April Fool’s Day – Once again, not a day off, but often noted in schools (and in the workplace). The name should be changed as it can offend the intellectually or judgmentally impaired.
Good Friday/Easter – Time off is not given, but no mention should be made of this holiday in schools. Church & State, Church & State!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!
Memorial Day – This day celebrates the needless deaths of Americans sent to fight wars and kill children. Or… it celebrates as martyrs the baby killers we call soldiers. Therefore, this should not be celebrated.
Independence Day – For those in summer school… Independence Day pressures children to display patriotism and nationalistic flag-waving. This should at least be toned down.

Oviously, this list above was tongue-in-cheek, but is it so unbelievable if we’re willing to ignore the real reason for the “winter break”?

Israeli Forces to Forcibly Remove Gaza Settlers

Filed under: — Ben Rast @ 7:57 pm

“Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’” – Exodus 33:1

“In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea. He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.” – Isaiah 11:11-12

REIM, Israel — Israel dispatched soldiers to the Gaza Strip at the crack of dawn Wednesday, beginning the next and possibly final phase of the pullout: forcible removal of Jewish settlers who continued to cling to their homes. More than 100 Israeli military vehicles left a huge staging area at 6 a.m. (11 p.m. EDT) and headed toward the main crossing point to Gaza. About 50 people protesting the withdrawal managed to delay the convoy by blocking the streets, forcing soldiers and police to drag them out of the vehicles’ path.

“O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. Come, they say, let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.” – Psalm 83:1-4

On Tuesday, soldiers marched through the gate and fanned out through the village. Commanders carried maps, and troops took up positions near the industrial zone, linking arms to form a cordon. Other soldiers went house-to-house, trying to persuade residents one last time to leave voluntarily.

At times, settlers and soldiers were reduced to tears as they argued over the wisdom of abandoning Gaza, Israeli-occupied land for 38 years and the focus of deadly Israeli-Palestinian conflict for decades.

One woman was overheard telling a soldier how her mother was forced to flee Nazi Germany. “Just remember that you are the evil one who is throwing me out of my house,” the woman said, rebuffing the soldier’s offer of help.

Moments before midnight, scores of settlers were in synagogues in several Gaza communities, dancing around sacred Torah scrolls. They waved flags and sang nationalist songs, protesting the eventual handing of the land to Palestinian control.

“I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.” – Joel 3:2

Ariel Sharon’s biggest mistake is underway. He will be remembered for surrendering Israeli land to Palestinian Arabs in the false hope that this will bring peace. The Palestinian Arabs will continue to be unable (and, perhaps, unwilling) to control terrorist organizations such as Hamas, who have already stated that this is their first step. They have vowed to keep fighting until they take Jerusalem. Muslims do not want to live peacefully alongside Israel — they want to destroy Israel. Sharon is giving them a hand. The Bush administration, in supporting this move, is displaying an agonizing hypocrisy – rewarding the terrorist actions of Hamas while claiming to oppose all terrorists and those who support them. I suppose as long as those being killed are Jews, it’s not really “terrorism.” I shudder when I know that God is just, and this betrayal of His promised land will not go unpunished.

By the way, the Gaza Strip sits in the ancient land of Judea — part of the Promised Land.
